Aiko has been helping students of all ages excel in math, Japanese, Spanish, French, SAT/ACT prep, and a host of other subjects since 2001. Individual and small-group lessons (up to 3 students) are held daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the Makiki/Manoa area.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved teaching. I began as a peer tutor of Spanish and math in high school, and later I made a living teaching English to locals and Japanese to fellow foreigners during the four years I lived in Japan after graduation from college. After returning to the U.S., I spent two years teaching ‘behind the scenes’ as an author and editor of online accounting homework problems for Aplia (part of Cengage Learning). I now spend most of my days offering standardized test prep courses to help Honolulu students get into the colleges of their dreams. When I’m not tutoring, I’m usually working on designing original fabrics for my clothing brand, so if you’d like to learn Photoshop or basic sewing, I can help with that as well.
“Of course, I love studying, memorizing trivia, and taking standardized tests as much as the next tutor, but I also have empathy for those who aren’t as academically inclined (or nerdy, or however you prefer to describe it). I try to make lessons as fun and relevant to students’ interests as possible. Most of my teaching experience has been with children in grades K-12, but I work well with students of all ages and backgrounds.
“Whether you need a tutor who is well rounded or someone to focus on a specific problem area like math or grammar, I’d love the chance to help. Thanks for reading!”
